If using GPS, be sure to enter Lakeview Drive E, or you'll end up on a short road in a subdivision in another part of town.From the parking area, you can choose to take the three-mile Goldmine Loop Trail or simply follow the road that goes nowhere. A one-mile section of the road started the project from the dam, but it was nearly a decade later before any more was built - a paltry three miles built by the state of North Carolina in 1958 outside the park at Bryson City. From the Road to Nowhere, make your way back to town and take a left on Depot Street.
With so much to see and do in the Smoky Mountains, it is hard to imagine a day when you might just have nowhere to go. We still had one more thing to explore in Bryson City - the Road to Nowhere.

When it's time to head back to Bryson City make sure to go slowly by the Oconaluftee Visitor Center to see the Elk that might be roaming in the Fields. From Cherokee drive 10.2 miles west on the. A little history so you know why I think this stuff happened to me. These issues were resolved, but road work never resumed. A thirty mile road known as Lakeview Drive would link Bryson City and Fontana. To return to Cherokee and Bryson City, just take the same road back - US 441 S/Newfound Gap Road.
From Bryson City, follow Everett Street/Fontana Road north out of town, and stay on Fontana Road until you come to the entrance to Great Smokey Mountains National Park.
